Military Family Appreciation Month at Jessup
November is Military Family Appreciation Month - a time when America honors and recognizes those unique sacrifices and challenges family members make in support of their loved ones in uniform. No matter what rank or branch, or where life has taken them, our nation’s military families share the common threads of service and sacrifice.
We celebrated the Month of the Military \Family at Jessup Elementary in November by providing meaningful and engaging activities.
School Activities:
- Some Teachers invite guest speakers from military families to share their experiences.
- In some classrooms discussions about the different branches of the military and the roles they play are facilitated
- We have a wall display where students and staff can post pictures and stories about their family members in the military.
- We facilitate a school assembly to honor military families during the school day and host an evening event that includes performances, readings, and presentations
- We have patriotic spirit days. These are themed dress-up days, such as wearing red, white, and blue, or camo day, to show support for military families.
- Our student leaders say the Pledge of Allegiance and make announcements over the intercom dedicated to honor military families and to share information about the armed services.
- We incorporate lessons on military history and the contributions of military families into the social studies curriculum.
- We teach STEM lessons related to military technology, engineering, or innovations.
- During our Back-to-School Picnic our S2S students will have a table set up and we invite local organizations that support military families to set up information booths at the school.
